How to Do The Embroidery Scroll Stitch

<< Back To All Embroidery Stitches

Scroll stitch is a great little embroidery stitch to add something extra to a border. It forms what look to be embroidered waves, and it is somewhat similar in appearance to the coral stitch or the Palestrina stitch.

how to do the scroll stitch
  1. Come up at A and make a loop with your thread along the surface of the fabric. The end of the working thread should be on top.
  2. Place the needle through the loop at B and C and gently pull the thread so a little knot forms. Don’t pull too tight though or you’ll pucker the fabric and lose the form of the stitch!
  3. Move one stitch length ahead, and repeat steps 1 and 2 the desired length.
